There is perhaps no bag more iconic to Hermès than the Birkin. Prized for its exclusivity, actress Jane Birkin debuted the eponymous bag in 1984. This Birkin 35 cm in shiny Porosus Crocodile skin with golden hardware is—like all Birkins—the masterly product of a single artisan. (Porosus Crocodile skin is noteworthy for its small, symmetrical scales and as being the most coveted and expensive of all the precious skins used by Hermès.) At 35 cm, this bag is the middling member of the Birkin family. It would also make a smart investment piece, given the bag's scarcity and the costliness of its materials.
